Apple Picking
A delicate process done by hand
Currently at the farm we’re in our apple orchard picking our Royal Gala apples. They came into bud in spring, and are now ready for harvest in January. As of now we’re only picking what we term ‘Bright Lights’- the perfect and best apples that stand out to the pickers. In a couple weeks we’ll harvest again, and then once more after that. Apples are delicate by nature so we hand pick. Each picker wears gloves to make sure not to bruise the apple. We have two teams of workers- some that use use ladders to reach the tops of the trees, and the second team that pick the bottom. Every worker has a bag that they full and then offload onto the back of a small tractor that can drive between the trees. From the tractor they go to the cold room for cleaning and packing.
