Chops and Soccer!

‘Friendly’ competition amongst our permanent staff…

To show our appreciation for all our permanent staff every year we have a day dedicated to no work and all play. The different teams that work across the farm come together in what one could even term the ‘Farm Games’. Starting the morning off with a presentation, the guys then fall out onto the field and compete in the Egg and Spoon race, Sack race, four a side Soccer and the hotly contested Tug O War. Although these are only games they are taken very seriously and every time a team won, the opposing team would immediately through up their hands in protest! Oupa bravely took on the role of referee for all the games, stood by his tough decisions and did an excellent job. A bit of grey area tactics definitely happened in the Egg and Spoon race as the ‘balancing’ of the egg on the spoon was a loudly debated topic! The 10 aside Tug O War took the longest because mid pull the sides would magically grow on either end to more then 10 men, which of course the loosing team would loudly point out. Great entertainment and excellent to watch all the banter and laughs! The soccer was so closely matched that the winning team was decided through a penalty shootout. After all the energy was spent, a lunch of wors, chops, pap and chakalaka accompanied with a Coke went down well in the shade.
